Riding the Kiddie Train
First taste of Cotton Candy
This is the week of the Forsyth County Fair - The Dixie Classic Fair to be exact. Luke has been singing a little tune lately, "we're going to the the country... we're going to the fair..." I'm not sure where he learned it or if it is even a song but how could we not take him to the fair? I have many memories of the Taylor County Fair in Abilene: Roaming around the fairgrounds after the football game on Friday night (we got in free with our game ticket), riding the nauseating rides, eating fair food, but mostly just being with my friends because we were excited to actually have something to do. In college, we attended the TEXAS-OU football game at the Cotton Bowl surrounded by the State Fair (which is actually tomorrow... Hook 'em Horns)! And yes, the fair like everything in Texas is BIGGER & BETTER from the corndogs at Fletcher's to the rides, the games, and the crowd. However, it's hard to beat small town fairs... In Abilene, it never failed to rain the week of the fair and thus the fairgrounds were basically muck and mud. It seems to be the rule here in Winston-Salem as well. Thankfully, the powers that be here have used their resources to pave the fairgrounds so no muck and mud. Shaun took the afternoon off and we took Luke for his first county fair experience. His face lit up with glee as he purchased his first bag of cotton candy (and now a few hours later he's experiencing his first sugar crash), he laughed out loud at the clown on stilts, was thrilled with the Jr. firefighter badge he received, tentatively touched a goat and watched daddy feed them at the livestock area, and clapped with true joy at the cattle show judging. He also enjoyed the kiddie rides. Shaun had the privilege of squeezing on the kiddie train and kiddie truck rides (thanks daddy). Currently, as I write this Luke is absolutely thrilled with his latest adventure, is completely exhausted and though he hasn't expressed it probably has a tummy ache... How can you not love the fair?

Hello! I love keeping up with what is going on with you guys via your blog. When I read it I just had to comment since 1) the Billante's are in town and 2)WE WERE AT THE TEXAS STATE FAIR TODAY! YES, FOR TX/OU weekend. If you haven't been w/ 1 6 year old and 3 3year olds, it's a treat! We miss the Dixie Classic Fair and of course all of NC friends, but you are right...the fair here, as is everything, is certainly bigger! We had a wonderful time and it looks like you guys did to!
The train photo reminds me of Granddaddy taking me to the Chattanooga Choo Choo every summer!
